Sun Cellular supports unlimited expression:
Freedom in basic colors

Wings of Freedom was how artist Ross Capili named his artwork in the Looking for Juan Outdoor Banner Project Art Exhibit held at the Vargas Museum in UP Diliman. Held in observance of Philippine Independence Day, it was an innovative and deeply creative exhibition of original masterpieces by 80 Filipino artists who showed their interpretation of this year’s theme, ‘Freedom.’ It was staged by the Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS) in partnership with Sun Cellular.
Capili’s acrylic painting on canvass used the basic colors of yellow, red and blue representing the Philippine flag. Aside from this symbolism, Capili said that “there’s also the freedom to enjoy nature. Hence, there are veins and greens na nag-i-intertwine sa work ko. For me, freedom is a responsibility that’s why I called my work Wings of Freedom; it has to fly.”
“This is already the fourth year of the Kalayaan Exhibit and I’ve always been invited pero ngayon lang ako nagkaroon ng chance to join,” he said. His participation gave him the opportunity and privilege to be with his fellow artists. “Dito sa exhibit na ito,” he explained, “makikita iyung tunay na interpretasyon ng artists, with different styles, different feelings, different medium.”
53-year-old Capili has staged 39 solo exhibits since he started painting including his most recent one-man show at LRI Design Plaza in Reposo, Makati. For more than two decades Capili has also travelled abroad and joined other artists in promoting Philippine arts. “I’ve been to Paris, New York and Asian countries like South Korea to do art shows there.”
Seeing himself in today’s young artists, Capili shared, “I’m now promoting other artists especially those who want to hold their first one-man shows.”
Truly believing in Filipino artistry, Capili sees a brighter future in Philippine arts. “Because marami na tayong experience mga Filipino, mas nakakapag-internalize ang artist so mas maganda niyang nailalabas ang work niya. I just wish more and more people will get to experience and see artworks like the Looking for Juan Exhibit,” Capili said. He is grateful that there are organizations like CANVAS and companies like Sun Cellular that believe in Filipino artists.
Like CANVAS, Sun Cellular also stands for freedom and unlimited expression by offering affordable connectivity and unlimited connection to millions of its subscribers. It was the first to offer unlimited calls and texts in the market, at very affordable costs.
