Sun Cellular supports TEAM TITAN in Cebu Pacific’s Juan for Fun Backpacker Challenge

Sun Cellular remains steadfast in its commitment of empowering young Filipinos by supporting youth-oriented activities all over the country. Recently, the telco company joined Cebu Pacific in celebrating the bold and adventurous spirit of students across the country as one of the major sponsors in the airline’s annual Juan For Fun Backpacker Challenge – a  five-team, six-destination race around the Philippines which culminated in a mad dash to the finish line at the storied Intramuros, Manila.

This year, five teams were picked from a pool of nearly a hundred entries from over 60 schools to travel to six key destinations of Cebu Pacific in a challenge-filled and energy-charged race. Rounding out the group of backpackers were college students from different schools all over the country: Team BA (UST), Team Big Explorers (DLSU and Philippine State College of Aeronautics), Team Bukidnon (Central Mindanao University), Team Kelofe (UP Cebu and University of San Carlos) and Team Titans (Our Lady of Fatima, Asia Pacific College and Patts College of Aeronautics).

For its part, Sun Cellular sponsored Team Titans giving them P30,000 pocket money to help the team get around town and stay connected during the grueling five-day jaunt. All three members of Team Titans – Jess Belonio, 19; Jamaica Malang, 23; and   Fabio Bouazzi 19 – are part of a group of runners called Titan. They are also self-confessed thrill seekers looking for a new kind of adventure that would allow them to “learn and appreciate different cultures, meet new people and explore the different destinations in the Philippines” without spending anything.

Juan For Fun Backpacker Challenge kicked off at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark, Pampanga where a food-eating contest consisting of Pampanga’s famous delicacies kuhol (snails), fried frogs and fried spicy itik (quail) had to be devoured before the teams proceeded to their next destination. The ensuing four days saw the teams travel to Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Davao and finally in Manila where the final stretch of the race took place. The winning team was awarded 12 Cebu Pacific tickets, 3 hotel accommodations, 3 Canon S3 cameras and 3 mobile phones powered by Sun Cellular prepaid.

As a preferred and reliable communication partner of today’s youth, Sun Cellular continues to provide meaningful service to young Filipinos not only through its affordable products that are well-suited to their needs but also through various sponsorships of youth-oriented activities that encourage positive values and foster relationships.
