SUN BROADBAND WIRELESS: A blogger’s secret to online success

Bloggers are some of the new celebrities of this generation. But instead of fans, they have followers. They wield their influence not on TV shows or commercials but in their own space tucked somewhere in the digital sphere. And for one blogger whose numerous blogs have been named among the most influential in the country, hectic is a lame word to describe his life which took a drastic turn in just a span of three years.

One could say that Jonel Uy has found his own comfortable niche in the web. It all began in 2009 with his random musings in LetsGoSago.net, a blog where he chronicles his travels and adventures across the Philippines. This was shortly followed by NomNomClub.com in 2010, an online personal diary about food and restaurants, and then another one last year, BloggerManila.com, which features a mix of technical tutorials, happenings in the Philippine blogosphere and his personal take on issues about blogging and social networking.

“Blogging is a personal outlet, among other things,” says Jonel about his newfound career. “You are also to make your opinion about matters public; it gives you ‘voice’ in the Internet. At the end of the day, if your output is substantial, you know that it can influence your readers and other netizens.”

In his profession where timeliness could make or break ones influential status, Jonel is not taking any chances when it comes to picking the right broadband provider. “I use wireless broadband for blogging, of course. Being mobile is important to me since I found a need to be always connected wherever I go,” he points out.

With three blog sites to run and another one in the offing, Jonel is very particular about using Sun’s Broadband Wireless service. “I like their wireless broadband service. It’s very dependable in almost everywhere I go in the Philippines. Being a travel blogger, I am glad Sun Broadband went nationwide last year.”

The makings of blogger

Jonel left his day job as a systems analyst and senior programmer three years ago to start his own blog and teach in a private school, almost the same time he became a Sun postpaid subscriber. “The affordable rates of Sun Broadband and the unlimited Sun-to-Sun SMS and calls made me switch,” he says, happy with all the unlimited services he gets from Sun.

As a newbie blogger, Jonel dabbled for a while before he finally found his niche. His first blog spawned into a couple more sites and a few “minor” blogs under the BloggerManila.com umbrella.  “It was not really a first, but most of the other blogs in the Philippines are a mix of everything and I always preferred blogs which have focused niche for the benefit of its readers. I have also seen a considerable increase of niche-blogs from 2010 onwards.”

Outside blogging and teaching, Jonel organizes events and does social media consultancy for other popular brands.

Always hopping from one place to the next, Jonel is sure never to leave the house without his Sun broadband. “I’m almost always connected to give real-time updates on my blog, Facebook pages and the Facebook business pages of my clients. When a client calls and needs a real-time update on their Facebook Page, I’m a modem click away from the Internet. It complements my iPad 2 as well. In blogging events, since I’m using Sun My-Wifi, I even share my hotspot connection to my fellow bloggers.”

Jonel’s unquenchable passion for blogging has inspired him to push the envelope a further and pay it forward by putting up the Blogger Manila Club and “Search for the Blogger Apprentice” project, two ventures aimed at helping newbie bloggers about the basics and ethics of blogging through free seminars, tutorials and blogging challenges among many other activities.

He recently launched his newest baby, the GadgetGambit.com tech blog, which he says is eyeing a spot at the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2012. And judging by the success of his other blogs, it looks like Jonel Uy is headed yet again for the stage to receive another award.
